It seems that people who do not do well with odors have a different pattern of brain activity and blood flow through the brain that those who can smell the same odor and have no reaction.
Regardless, I say if it's toxic, we shouldn't be smelling it.

That's an interesting article, thank you. Not all offenders are toxic, but frankly if it's toxic I'd rather it have an odor - as a warning - than be covered up or eliminated. The smell of raw basil growing sends me to a nasty place, but I love it cooked. Supposedly this is all related.
